21421. A mission to FEED India: this 43-year-old is ensuring children in West Bengal do not go hungry
- To eliminate malnutrition among children, Chandra Sekhar Kundu set up FEED that presently feeds 1,000 children across Asansol, Kultoli, and the Sundarbans.
- In 2016, he established a non-governmental organisation, FEED (Food Education and Economic Development) with the objective of eliminating malnutrition among children.
- Today, he not only satiates the hunger of over a thousand underprivileged children in and around the city, but also provides them with educational and medical support.

- Six youngsters led by Soumya Ranjan Biswal picked over 5,000 kgs of waste across a stretch of 18 km on the Astaranga beach, clearing the beach for the Olive Ridley turtles to nest..

21425. Renewable capacity addition jumps 80% to 3.4 GW in Q3
- New capacity addition of non-hydro renewable energy increased 80% to 3.4GW in the December quarter from 1.9GW installed in the year-ago period, according to the latest market report from CEEW Centre for Energy Finance (CEEW-CEF).
- Solar energy made up 92% of the total renewable capacity added during the third quarter, driven partly by a 142% rise in rooftop installations totalling 700MW. This growth in new capacity was registered in spite of solar module prices rising 40% to Rs 21/Watt-peak over 2020.
- Overall, in terms of net capacity additions, renewable energy formed 75% of the total 4.5GW capacity added -- net of 900 MW, which were converted to captive mode – during the period. Coal-based power generation capacity of 2,095 MW was added in Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu ,Bihar.
21426. Made in India 'Thums Up' becomes a billion-dollar brand
- The locally-made fizzy drinks brand has finally proved its might at a global scale by becoming a billion dollar brand in 2021.
- The made-in-India cola brand that is now owned by the fizzy drinks giant Coca-Cola - has raked in over $1 billion (Rs 7,500 crore) in sales last year, according to a top Coca-Cola official. Launched in 1977, the 45 years old brand has been enjoying the leadership position in the country’s aerated drinks market for years.
- But now, it has also grabbed the rare honour of being one of the billion-dollar brands in the global beverages' market. With Thums Up taking the crown, Coca-Cola now has some dozen brands globally that has over $1 billion annual sales.

21427. Petronet to invest Rs 40,000 crore, including in overseas LNG plants
- Petronet LNG Ltd, the operator of the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal, will invest Rs 40,000 crore over next 4-5 years, including in overseas supply sources, its CEO A K Singh said
- Petronet plans to make foray into the petrochemical business by investing Rs 12,500 crore in a Propane Dehydrogenation Plant that will convert imported feedstock into propylene, as well as set up a floating LNG import facility at Gopalpur in Odisha at a cost of Rs 1,600 crore, he told reporters here.
- Petronet is 50 per cent owned by state-owned refiners Indian Oil Corp (IOC) and Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL), gas utility GAIL (India) Ltd and oil and gas producer ONGC. The four companies sit on the board of the company, which is headed by the Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
21428. India's largest community block toilet inaugurated in Mumbai's Dharavi
- A two-storey community toilet, the biggest community toilet block in India, under the Suvidha Project was inaugurated in Asia's biggest slum locality, Dharavi, Mumbai, on Wednesday.
- The toilet complex - Suvidha Kendra - built by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) was inaugurated by Maharashtra's Tourism, Environment and Protocol Minister Aaditya Thackeray. BMC partnered with Hindustan Unilever Ltd and HSBC India for the project.
- The community block will have 111 toilet seats. The centre will also provide bathing facilities for 50,000 residents of the area, RO drinking water and laundry service, among others. Keeping sustainability at its core, the centre will help save 6.5 million litres of freshwater every year.

21430. Three Wheels United and Euler Motors join hands to promote the adoption of electric three-wheelers in India
- three Wheels United (TWU), a Bengaluru-based tech-enabled financier of light electric vehicles, has partnered with Electric Vehicle maker Euler Motors to accelerate the adoption of electric three-wheelers in India and promote sustainable mobility.
- As a part of the partnership, TWU and Euler Motors will deploy over 1000 EV 3-wheelers across Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad by the end of the financial year 2023. Three Wheels United has over 50,000 drivers on its platform, offering them various products and services. The company has financed over 4000 auto-rickshaws resulting in the reduction of 1,72,000+ tonnes of CO2 emissions, and the generation of an extra $71M in income for the drivers.
